Seagulls Lookout is an exciting, stimulating and challenging environment for 3 /4 year olds.  We have seven groups of approximately 12 children, some of which are full time, some part time.  Each group has a key person who is directly responsible for the children in their group.  They are the first point of daily contact, they keep learning diaries noting development and progression, they also do the assessment procedures as they have an in-depth knowledge of the children.

We have a play based curriculum which focuses upon the individual children’s interests.  We like to encourage parents and carers to contribute information about their children and their interests at home.

Regular observations are done for children in various forms and these are used to inform the planning of activities and set up the environment to extend the children’s learning opportunities.  The routine of the day ensures that the children have a large proportion of free play time during which they can explore the environment, both inside and out, make choices and extend individual interests.  Fruit and milk time provides opportunity to encourage conversation, talking with their Key Person and peers about what they have been doing and sharing their achievements.  We also highlight healthy living and how to look after our bodies during this time.

We keep parents and carers informed of their child’s achievements and developments by having the opportunity for daily contact, information evenings and regular consultations.  We invite parents and carers to participate in next steps of development for their children.

We endeavour to provide the children with a variety of opportunities to visit the wider environment.  These include going to the forest, swimming and regular trips within the local area.
